Recharging the Earth Final 2011

The Recharging the Earth 2011 final took place at the Brainwave 11 event at NETPark near Sedgefield in July.

St. John's Chapel Primary School from Weardale won the Battery Recycling Competition by collecting 24 StJohnsChapelandjudges2 5kg of batteries, a great achievement for a small school of 41 pupils which saw the whole community get behind the project. The school received a fantastic 'lifetime supply' of Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries and chargers.

Of fifty participating schools, six battled it out to win the grand prize:

  • Willington CE Primary
  • Esh CE Primary School
  • Chester-le-Street CE Junior School
  • Yohden Primary School
  • Coxhoe Primary School
  • Hamsterley Primary School

The overall winners of the 'Future Planets' challenge were Hamsterley Primary School, with their creative use of video and live Hamsterley_1st_webaction performance to deliver a vision of a sustainable future 25 years from now.

They will receive £10,000 worth of Sanyo photovoltaic panels which will be installed at the school soon.
