Location/Directions :

On entering Middleton-in-Teesdale from the east (Durham/Darlington) proceed to the obvious village centre, with a small car park on your left and shops to your right.
Turn left immediately after the car park (Bridge Street). The centre is approx. 100m along this road on your left, before the River Tees

Accommodation:

38 beds are available for group use.
18 female beds are located in a single dormitory at one end of the building, with 3 small staff bedrooms alongside.
20 male beds are arranged in two adjoining dormitories (11 beds and 9 beds) at the opposite end of the building, along with 3 staff bedrooms.

Showers and washrooms are located close to each dormitory. A further shower/washroom is available for disabled users.

The main accommodation building also has a classroom,a games/lounge room, a cloakroom, and the Head of Centres office.

A dining room and occasional classroom is located in a separate building within the centre yard. All the accommodation is on one level. Full catering is provided.

The centre has an enclosed field area for games  and a netball court on the yard area.


Centre Programmes:

The Middleton Centre is an ideal base to explore the rich history and landscapes of the Upper Tees Valley.
§ A wealth of full day and half day walks are available, from high moorland to sheltered riversides.
§ Habitat studies of moorland, woodland and freshwater can be enjoyed, as can many arts-based activities using the beauty of the outdoors for inspiration..
§ Museum visits can be arranged including the Killhope Lead Mining Museum and the Bowes Museum.
§ Adventurous outdoor activities can be arranged via the local Kingsway Centre.
§ Village studies, lead mining trails, navigation and orienteering, farm and auction mart visits, all provide an excellent potential for enjoyment and learning.

The Head of Centre will help you to organise a programme that best fulfils your own educational aims, and will provide advice and leadership during your visit.

All activities take place within the County Durham CYPS Safety Guidelines for Outdoor and Adventurous Activities.

The Middleton Centre is open for bookings during school days, for weekends and during school holiday periods.

Schools are advised that all residential visits by County Durham schools require approval from the local authority, via the EVOLVE system.




[County Durham schools will be invited through the EXTRANET to make advance bookings each January, for the school year beginning in September of the same year. Booking requests will be dealt with on a formula to ensure that all schools receive a fair chance of gaining a place. Those places will be offered in February/March to successful applicants who will be asked to confirm. Late cancellations or unfilled weeks will be notified via the EXTRANET].
